"Blogging is the new poetry."
Is it true? ? Can it be true? ? ??? Is this anonymous quote saying that the number of people who blog now in the 21st century are equal to the number of people (proportionally anyway) who wrote poetry in previous centuries? I find that hard to believe, even if I stretch my overactive imagination. Up until the 20th century vast proportions of the population were illiterate, never mind poetic. I choose this quote for today to bring focus to my own idea of blogs & blogging. I believe that "Blogging is the new cult culture."

- I am a writer with a lifelong fascination with words. My first memory of the power of words was recognizing that "T E R R O R" not only meant 'terror' but that the letters strung together as they are enough to instill terror. I love looking at the quotes of other people and seeing how they can be so relative to everyday life. There are so many words out there, there is so much being said, and so much of it is being recorded and then accessible at a moment's notice. My blog is to take those sound bites and freeze them, add my own sound bite, and offer them both up and out to the world for the world to take a second, closer look and really see what has been said.
The new poetry? Well, texting isn't poetry, emailing isn't poetry, but blogging maybe for many is a form or their own artistic expression, or expression period. Interesting thought.
